Where does AES key come from?
AES is a variant of the Rijndael block cipher developed by two Belgian cryptographers, Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, who submitted a proposal to NIST during the AES selection process. Rijndael is a family of ciphers with different key and block sizes.
Where do I find encryption key?
Check your device manual for supported encryption protocols. The default encryption key may be located on the bottom of your router or in the manual, depending on the router manufacturer. You can locate the encryption key when you log into the router setup page, if you have created your own encryption key.
Where are the keys usually stored?
It depends on the use of the key. It could be stored at an HSM, a smartcard, a crypto token, at the server hard disk, even written in paper (split and stored in vaults). The key can be unencrypted (in the clear) or encrypted with another key.
Where are decryption keys stored?
You can store the public key anywhere, and in particular on the web server, where it will be used to encrypt uploaded files. Once encrypted, you can store the (encrypted version of the) uploaded files on either ServerA or ServerB; either way, without the private key, it won't be possible to read them.
