What is the difference between online and offline database?
Online - you are connecting to a database that is up and running. Offline - allows you to define your Business Components against a database definition that is in JDeveloper and not a real live database.
Can you have offline database?
When a Database is available offline, it is stored locally, so it can be used even if there is no connection to the server (i.e. you are offline). To make a Database available offline you need to be connected to the Internet to perform your account's synchronisation.
What happens if I take database offline?
Sometimes a nasty bug is found in your app that, even though not malicious, will still corrupt data in your database. Taking the database offline is a quick way to stop the bleeding until you get the bug identified. You can then bring it back online to assess the damage within the database.
