If you copy something (as you would do with a copying machine) then you have an identical image of something you can start working on in the same environment. Whereas if you import something, your also copying an object but instead it might not fit in to the environment you intend to use it in.

Is importing photos the same as copying?

Same goes to Photo copies. About Import, We use this command to import Text, audio, video, photo, a folder a file etc saved on computer or on other drives. but in importing it does not add on Clip Board on computer, we can not paste it where we want like in case of copy.
